What does this mean for others?
The fact that one man is already facing prosecution does not look good for others who may thing that they are flying
under the radar. This is the first prosecution and this would lead people to think that it means many more to come.
Lyons is also being accused of falsifying 2004 and 2005 tax returns. It appears as if Lyons would send amounts of money
to Antigua. If Lyons is found guilty of the charges against him, he could be facing as much as 30 years in prison.
He would also be facing up to three years of supervision following his release from prison, as well as fines which may
be as much as $250,000.
This is not good news for online gambling
In recent days it has been looking as if things where lightening up for Internet gambling and as if there was light at
the end of the tunnel. This turn of events makes it look as if some of that light is fading away. It will be interesting
to see where this leads with regards to how many lengths the UIGEA will go to in order to bring charges against others.
One could only venture to guess how many of the online gambling sites are actually being run in the US. 36 counts is a
huge amount of counts to face. This is more than likely a way for the UIGEA to show the online gambling sites that they
are putting their feelers out there and they are bringing the site owners up on charges.
