More news regarding the California Online Gambling Bill

California has been seeing a lot of interest and occurrences with regards to the online gambling bill which would be a huge step forward for those wanting to see playing at online casinos legalized in the state of California. This bill was written by State Senator Roderick Wright and he elected to not have his committee vote on the bill today. He decided to instead update the Governmental Organization Committee on the progress of this bill and why the state of California should license and regulate online gambling.

The current standing of the bill

Wright has said that this bill still needs some more work, but that it is moving in the right direction. The reason this bill apparently needs some more work is due to the fact that some who were expected to big supporters of the bill have shown opposition to the bill.
The Morongo Band of Mission Indians has been very outspoken with regards to their support of legalizing online casinos in the state of California. However, when it came to the current bill, they have spoken out about their opposition and said that they could not support the bill in its current form. Also, some California card rooms that were expected to support the bill have stated opposition.

What is wrong with the current bill?

The current bill allows for open competition for three of the Internet gambling licenses. This includes bids which could come from offshore companies. Both the Morongo Tribe and the card rooms would like for the licenses to go to groups who already offer poker in the state of California. Wright knows that it will be difficult to come up with a language which will satisfy everyone. However, he has said that he viewed that doing nothing was not an option.
